For the patties
- 2 apples (e.g. gala)
- pinch ground ginger
- ¼ tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- A pinch black pepper
- 600 g medium sweetpotatoes, cooked and mashed
- 450 g ground turkey
- 2 tbsp olive oil
For assembly
- 6 whole wheat buns
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- dash sea salt
- 60 ml barbecue sauce
- fresh sage or rosemary (optional)
- remaining apple sliced, for topping (optional)

Directions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 180 °C.
Step 2
Cut 1 apple in half and grate into a medium bowl.
Step 3
Add the ground ginger, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, black pepper, mashed sweetpotatoes, and ground turkey to the bowl with the grated apple. Mix well.
Step 4
Shape the mixture into 5 to 6 medium-sized patties.
Step 5
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until fully cooked through.
Step 6
While the patties cook, optionally toast the whole wheat buns in the oven for 3 to 5 minutes.
Step 7
Slice the remaining apple and use as a topping on the cooked turkey patties, if desired.
Step 8
Assemble the burgers with BBQ sauce, a slice of cheddar cheese, and fresh sage or rosemary leaves if using. Serve immediately.
